Helicopter Aviation Services provide a passenger handling service for all flights. Helicopter operators undertaking shuttle flights must have a representative at the Heliport to co-ordinate their passengers.

The surface of the heliport is not suitable for ground taxiing. Helicopters are required to air-taxi via the FATO. During periods of intense traffic helicopters may be required to air-taxi on the eastern side of the FATO in order to allow helicopters to pass each other; this may involve crossing and re-crossing the FATO when taxiing to and from fuel.

1  Heliport Regulations
  1. All operators will be required to provide an insurance indemnity in advance of landing at this helicopter aerodrome. This indemnity is in standard form and is available from Helicopter and Aviation Services Ltd.

  2. Heliport is not normally available to helicopters unable to communicate by radio. Non-radio helicopters must obtain PPR from ATC.

  3. Prior to using the Heliport pilots must obtain a briefing from Helicopter and Aviation Services Limited.

  4. ATC permission is required for engine start.

  5. Helicopters are not permitted to shutdown on stand. Pilots unable to disembark passengers rotors-running must inform the Heliport operator when obtaining PPR.

2  Ground Movement
  1. All manoeuvres, including hover and air taxiing require ATC permission.

  2. The heliport surface is not suitable for ground taxiing.

  3. The distance between stands does not permit hovering on adjacent stands.

3  Warnings
  1. Intense traffic can be expected during the Cheltenham Gold Cup event. To accommodate this specific procedures have been designed these include:

    1. Non standard RTF phraseology and

    2. Non standard ATC procedures. Pilots must be briefed on these procedures by the Licensee.

  2. Use of the Heliport is subject to pilots complying with these procedures.

  3. High ground rises to 1083 FT AMSL to the East of the aerodrome.

4  Training
  1. Use of the Heliport by training flights is subject to prior approval from the Licensee.

EGBC AD 3.20  NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES

  1. No movements are permitted whenever horses are on the racecourse.

  2. All helicopters shall avoid overflying the grandstands, racecourse, car parks and residential properties around the Heliport.

  3. The visual circuit patterns together with the arrival and departure routes form part of the noise abatement procedures. The Heliport Licensee requires strict compliance with these routings.

EGBC AD 3.21  FLIGHT PROCEDURES

1  General
  1. All procedures are based on the Cheltenham QNH. ATC will provide the QFE when requested by pilots.

  2. Pilots operating to/from the Heliport must follow the published routes and altitudes.

  3. ATZ radius 2 NM 2000 FT AAL and Restricted Airspace (Temporary), radius 3 NM SFC - 3000 FT AMSL, are established for the duration of the Cheltenham Festival and Gold Cup Meeting. Details are published in NOTAM and AIC.
